Member of the Spanish Alliance for Investing in Children, Save the Children Spain, has launched the report “Enlightening the future: Investing in children is to fight against child poverty”, which analyses the school, family and social factors influencing children’s access to education and how this links to increasing child poverty figures in Spain.
The report identifies the different aspects hampering children’s access to education and how these will affect their future. Save the Children Spain highlights that families’ economic status should not influence children’s access to the learning and skills acquired through an inclusive and high quality education.
The report also analyses the educational policies being developed in the Spanish autonomous communities, giving an overview of which geographic areas are more aligned with the policies of educational equity needed to compensate inequalities in each region.
According to the report, it’s possible to revert the poverty cycle and social exclusion situation affecting the Spanish children. Only by investing in children and improving the educational system at all levels, including research and training, child poverty figures will decrease.
